Heirloom Family Pack - Karuppu Kavuni Rice 2.5Kg, Maapilai Samba 2.5KG
Two of Tamil Nadu’s most treasured heirloom rices, in family-sized packs for everyday meals.
Karuppu Kavuni (கருப்பு கவுனி அரிசி) was once known as “The Forbidden Rice” and was enjoyed by aristocrats in the Chettinadu and Tanjore regions. Its deep purple colour comes from anthocyanins, and it has a nutty, slightly sweet taste.
Mapillai Samba (மாப்பிளை சம்பா அரிசி) is the “Bridegroom’s Rice,” traditionally eaten for strength and stamina and mentioned in Sangam literature. It is a reddish-brown grain with plenty of nutrients.
Pack contains:
- Karuppu Kavuni (Black Rice) – 2.5kg
- Mapillai Samba (Red Rice) – 2.5kg
Benefits: Rich in iron, fibre and protein. Low glycemic index. Diabetic friendly.
Origin: Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu
Usage: Daily rice, pongal, kanji, payasam, puttu
